Remodeling in Menlo Park.

Since 1990, we’ve been a trusted remodeling partner for homeowners across California’s Bay Area, bringing architects, designers, and builders together under one roof to improve homes while respecting their original character.

Menlo Park homes have a distinct style, from mid-century ranches and craftsman bungalows to modern builds. We understand both their structural needs and the design expectations of their owners, and we know where many contractors fall short.

At Timeline Design + Build, the same team handles both design and construction, reducing delays, cost overruns, and miscommunication.

This is home remodeling in Menlo Park, done right.

You can say a lot about your own work. What matters more is what clients say after they’ve lived in it for a while. That’s where the truth is.

My husband and I worked with Timeline to provide some initial insights for the potential remodel of our house in Los Altos. They provided useful design guidance for what a minimal, moderate, and full-scale renovation would look like, in addition to approximate costs for each. Their guidance was practical and well-informed from years of experience in the industry. They were professional, flexible and always listened to our input. Although we weren't able to take the process any further due to our family situation, we gained a lot from our conversations and had fun dreaming about what our little house could be. We highly recommend Timeline Design!

My wife and I had TimeLine Design design and build our custom 5700 sq ft Portola Valley home. From tear down of the old house to move in to the new house was on schedule at 19 months! Unbelievable. I believe this performance was partly due to the fact that they did the architectural design as well as the build, so the normal stresses between architect and builder were not present. The in-house architect was terrific and the home is lovely. The other reason it was on schedule was that Timeline Design takes scheduling very seriously, so much so it is in their name. The other amazing thing about the project was that it was on budget. We had detailed discussions of what we could afford and therefore what could go into the project and what couldn't. We scaled back the ambition of the project and the luxury level of some of the materials up front and then TLD delivered as planned. TLD is an honest and hardworking builder of the highest quality. We love them! How many times have you heard that from a construction company client?

We hired Timeline Design in Saratoga, California for a major remodel of our home. We found mold damage that required us to essentially tear down half our house, pour a new foundation, and rebuild it. It was a long, painful process but the staff at Timeline made it as easy and pleasant as it could possibly be. We are very happy with our "new" home and really enjoyed working with the staff at Timeline. Matthew Harrigan, the owner and president of Timeline, started us off with the design process and provided us multiple estimates so we could choose an option that fit our budget. Matthew was friendly, easy to work with, and showed genuine concern for our situation. For interior design we worked with Kyle Le, who through several sessions showed us multiple options and even took us shopping to pick out tile. He provided a great deal of input and he knows what he's talking about, the house looks great! He did a good job of keeping our budget in mind as well. As our start date got close Timeline provided us with a calendar outlining the expected time to completion. They stayed on schedule throughout the project and finished very close to the date promised, with only a few minor details that needed to be addressed. Their follow-through has been solid, they are completely finished with the job with the exception of our new dishwasher. We're still waiting on it due to supply chain issues, but they're keeping us posted and it's expected soon. Our project manager, Gary Skwarek, was onsite every day, extremely capable, and a joy to work with. Gary handled all the work at the house that the subcontractors didn't, doing a terrific job. I can't say enough good things about Gary. If you choose to work with Timeline, you'd be fortunate to have him assigned to your job. We also worked with several other employees, including Jason Daniels, Joshua Javillonar, Hooman Amanat, and Jason Sanders. They all provided excellent, friendly service. With the exception of a couple issues that were resolved by Timeline, the subcontractors that were on our job were quite efficient and provided quality workmanship and materials. Timeline even came back out and repaired misalignment of our pocket doors a few months after the job ended at no cost to us. In closing, we are very happy we chose Timeline for our project. Their workmanship is excellent, they stayed on schedule, and worked effectively with our budget.

Timeline did an extensive remodel of our Eichler-style house a couple of years ago. They were excellent to work with. They were transparent throughout the process and let us be as hands on as we wanted to be. Their designer took pains to respect the style of the original house while modernizing it. The construction leads were professional and fun to work with. They cared about getting every detail right. They accommodated all our change orders and delivered the project on time and within budget. Highly recommend working with this crew!

I have worked with Matthew Harrigan and team for over 7 years. Matthew is not only a fantastic designer of your space, but pulls rabbits out of the hat all the time to keep his clients elated! His team is top notch, from the interior designers, to his architectural staff, office personnel and the guys who are in the field building your dream home. Matthew has developed a base of experts, city and county personnel, who know, when he calls or asks a question, they respect his work and reputation and are eager to help. He is definitely not the cheapest guy out there, but the end result shows why cutting corners does not bring the same value to the home, make the client happy, and he can’t put his name on something he is not proud of. He stands behind his warranties. His whole reason for doing what he does is to have happy, satisfied customers and ALWAYS goes above and beyond to ensure 20 years down the road they are still positive they made the right decision by going with Timeline. In fact, he has so many clients who end up doing one project after the next over the years so clearly they are more than satisfied! I am so confident in his prowess, that he is transforming my sister’s ocean front property into an amazing home. I would not have recommended him to my own sister if I wasn’t completely confident in his ability, follow through and team. One more thing! 98% of his clients (even after 10 or more years) welcome Matthew and new clients to tour their homes. THAT typically doesn’t happen if you aren’t happy with the process and result! Thank you for reading! Robyn

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer a full range of home remodeling services, from kitchen and bathroom renovations to whole-home transformations. Our design-build model means architecture, interior design, and construction are all handled by one integrated team.

Renovation usually means updating what already exists, like finishes or fixtures. Remodeling goes deeper and can involve changing layouts, structures, or how the space functions.

Most remodeling contractors either design or build. We do both, with licensed architects and interior designers on staff. That means your vision is protected from the first drawing to the final build. No translation errors. No handoffs.

Yes. We work across Menlo Park, home remodeling in West Menlo Park included. Our team is familiar with the neighborhoods, local permit requirements, and the architectural character of homes across the area.

Timelines vary by scope. A kitchen home remodel in Menlo Park may take 8 to 14 weeks. A whole-home renovation can run 6 to 12 months. We provide a detailed project timeline before work begins, and we hold to it.

A design-build firm keeps everything under one roof. That means fewer miscommunications, smoother timelines, and a final result that stays true to the original vision.

It starts with a conversation. Reach out to us, and we’ll talk through your ideas, your home, and what you’re looking to achieve. No pressure, just a chance to see if we’re the right fit.
